Wellness = Team Success & Growth
“Over the past two weeks we conducted our annual performance reviews and one of the questions we asked team members was about our wellness sessions, did they find them useful, and is there some they’d still like to see. The response was overwhelming how much they loved the sleep session! We want you to know our team really liked it and are genuinely implementing suggestions and new habits for improved sleep hygiene. I’d say your approach was just right. It put people at ease, so they didn’t feel it was a lecture.”

Our “always connected, always on” working culture can mean longer hours in the office and extra hours put in at home. This can lead to poor quality sleep. A recent study at HULT International Business School found some pretty substantial findings. Of the over 1000 people surveyed for this study, the average was just shy of 6.5 hours each night. Following the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommendations, healthy adults should get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Many survey participants reported poorer workplace performance from tiredness. More than half struggled to stay focused in meetings, took longer to complete tasks and found idea generation more challenging. In addition to this, they mentioned having less motivation to learn and manage competing demands. Sleep deprivation impacts our health in many ways: feelings of lethargy, heartburn, palpitations and much more. A decreased immune function means you could be more susceptible to common illnesses. More sick days = less productivity. Emotional, psychological and social well-being can also be impacted from sleep deprivation. Consider how teamwork is impacted by an irritable employee, which is one side effect people feel when sleep-deprived. These sessions are 50 minutes in length and can be done over lunch or at another time during the workday.
